An ‘Everything’ experience @ Doolally Taproom | Kemps Corner | Mumbai

There are outlets serving food then there are Gastropubs serving food & drinks.. But what about eating, drinking, reading & playing fun games with your buddies all at the same place?? Well, you can have this ‘Everything’ experience at Doolally Taproom. They have 4 outlets in different areas of Mumbai. We happen to visit the one situated in Kemps Corner, South Mumbai.

Doolally Taproom is popularly known for its artisanal craft drinks. The word Doolally is originally a British military slang (1917) from Deolali, a town near Bombay, India. It basically means out of one’s mind.

As soon as we entered, we saw some cute pets after which we realized that the place is pet friendly. Not only
this, they have pet food too!! (So your pets can enjoy their meal while you are having yours...)The outlet gives a free Wi-Fi access as well. (which makes it easy to post N number of pictures on social media which we all click before eating/drinking !! )

Talking about the ambiance, this outlet gives a sober feel with light-wood furniture and everything else (lights, frames etc) done in clean white color. On a side, one can see shelves of books and on the other side is the brick-walled bar for drinks. They have cool group games like Jenga ,UNO and much more. If not already on your table, ask for it and they will get one for you. The ambiance overall seems like a college common room and that’s why is full of young people almost every evening!!

Doolally Taproom is one of those places where if you wish to, you can enjoy beer with your breakfast. It opens at 7AM on Saturdays & Sundays. They have quite unique cuisines on their menu like Radhaballabhi with Alu Dum & Chana Dal – INR 300 (Green peas Puris with Bengali potato curry & chana daal), Chicken Ghee roast – INR 450, Kundapuri Mutton Sukka- INR 450 (Boneless mutton tossed with onions, chili & curry leaves in South canara masala) & a few others… But we felt there should be more veg options in the menu. Nevertheless, for beverages, they have their own artisanal Tap beers in 9 different variants. The drinks are priced reasonably at INR 300. One can amazingly close the meal with the Doolally’s dessert section offering Apple Pie – INR 300 and two others.

What we personally liked is the good description given on the menu for each drink! Also the staff is well versed to handle all kinds of crowd…

Moving on to what we tried @Doolally Taproom.

From Artisanal drinks:
We did a tasting of 4 drinks.

1. Apple Cider: This one is different from the rest we had. It has a sweet apple taste to it.. Something one should try at Doolally.

2. Marzen Oktoberfest: Originated from Germany & brewed strong in March (hence Marzen) & kept till October.. Strong in taste.. Drink it chilled & fast!! That’s the rule..

Left - Marzen Oktoberfest , Right - Apple Cider

3. Hefe Weizen: This one is classic cloudy Doolally style Wheat drink.

4. Oatmeal Stout: Originated 500 years ago, this smooth velvety drink was chocolaty brown in color with good amount of froth on the top. Points up for this one. (if you like real strong drinks)

Note: Prices are inclusive of all taxes. Doolally don’t take service charge.

From Food menu:

1. Chicken popcorn chaat (INR 350): We ordered this because we heard a lot about this one from our social group. It is basically chicken popcorns tossed with crunchy veggies: bell pepper, onion, carrot, corn and masalas. A perfect snacking item.

2. House Fries (Full INR 400): Yet another popular food item from the menu. We loved it. These thick, hand-cut potato fries were crisp. The best part- Came with 5 different dips – Green chili & mint, Greek herb yogurt, Bhut Mayo, Mango Basil Salsa and Garlic Mustard Aioli (with egg content). Are you a fries lover? If yes, you have gotta try this!!

From Dessert menu:

Rocky Road (INR 300): What better way than a dessert to complete the meal with!! This amazing dessert had hot gooey nutty brownies at the bottom with Chocolate ganache, more nuts & marshmallows at the top. The Uniqueness: It had Chikki (an Indian sweet prepared with Jaggery & groundnuts). Highly recommend this.

This place is a total definition of ‘Everything’ place. Head to Doolally Taproom to have a fun evening with your friends/family/lover!!

The outlet has a sign on the wall that says: ‘Doolally: Giving great head since 2009’. Well, we have to say congratulations on a job well done !!
